The entrance canopy was the first Star project to be undertaken by the Friends. It was completed in 1996 thanks to early funding and interest in the foundation of the Friends three years earlier.
This view shows the internal support of the structure. The individal girder supports were built from angle strip that was cut and drilled by hand. The stone support corbels were individually carved and were dedicated by Lucinda Lambton the well known historian and broadcaster.
The PORT COCHERE style is based on a canopy at Kingham, Oxfordshire built in the 1880s.
