HISTORY

The Severn Valley Railway is one of the premier steam preservation lines in the country. The Friends were set up in 1993 to enhance the station built at Kidderminster and provide the atmosphere and ambience that a true GWR station of the 1920's would have had. Where possible we have recovered original GWR items for reuse, such as spear top fence panels and platform barrows etc. When preservation has not been possible, we have built exact replicas of many items from samples, engineering drawings or photos.

The Friends also have an interest in historic railway buildings and general conservation. Main projects have included the provision of an Entrance Canopy, Roof Crestings for the towers and dozens of small projects throughout the station and forecourt area.

Please browse around the many projects detailed on this site and if you feel that you would like to be a part of the history of railway preservation, why not join us?
